Bronze Statue Of Joan Of Arc By A. Gaudez
A bronze sculpture depicting Joan of Arc on horseback, a French national heroine, created by the French sculptor Antoine Gaudez (1841–1909). This monumental work depicts Joan of Arc clad in full medieval armor, sitting proudly atop a powerfully built, finely modeled warhorse. With her right hand, she triumphantly brandishes her banner, while with her left she holds the reins and carries her sword at her side. Her face powerfully expresses determination, faith, and courage.
The sculpture is cast in bronze and features a superb deep brown patina with warm tones. It rests on a naturally shaped bronze base. The finesse of the chiseling, the quality of the modeling, and the dynamic composition attest to the exceptional craftsmanship of late 19th-century French sculpture.
The work is clearly signed “A. GAUDEZ” on the base and can be dated to the period between 1880 and 1900. It is preserved in excellent original condition, with its original patina and remarkable details perfectly preserved.
Antoine Gaudez (1841–1909) was a leading French sculptor and a student of François Jouffroy at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and gained international renown for his historical, allegorical, and genre sculptures, which are remarkable for their expressiveness and the quality of their bronze execution.
