Pair Of Large 18th-century Shoe Buckles Made Of Blued Steel, England, Circa 1780
Artist: Inconnu
A pair of large blued steel shoe buckles.
Probably from England, they date from the 1780s.
The metal is original; it is blued steel, a technique prized at the time in both fashion and antique armory; indeed, fine weapons such as dueling pistols by Boutet or Lepage, as well as the ceremonial sabers awarded during the reign of Napoleon I, were made of blued steel.
Our examples show signs of oxidation on 10 to 20% of the total surface area.
100% original, from a historic Breton collection.
