Gilded Silver Chalice And Paten. France, Circa 1900

A chalice and paten made of gilded silver.
The chalice rests on a circular, stepped base edged with fillets. The base is engraved with drooping lanceolate leaves, alternating with guilloché-patterned leaves reminiscent of aquatic plants.
The tubular shaft is adorned with a collar and a torus-shaped knot accented by broad leaves and small flowers. The bowl, slightly conical in shape with a straight rim, is set within a cut-out false bowl featuring the same ornamentation as the base’s rim.
French work, circa 1900.
The base is weighted.
Hallmarks Minerva 950/1000 on the bowl and on the rim of the base.
Silversmith’s mark: Louis Gilles & Cie (1882–1927).
