Stamp of the art supply dealer “H. Vieille & Troisgros” on the canvas; dealer in frames, manufacturer of stretchers, and producer of fine pigments at 35 rue de Laval in Paris*. Vieille went into partnership with C. Troisgros as “paint merchants” for four years, beginning in February 1878. After Vieille’s retirement, the Troisgros brothers took over the business at 35 rue Laval in March 1883, until the company was dissolved in May 1892

Euphémie Muraton (French, 1840–1914) Also known as Euphémie Duhanot, she was born in Beaugency(Loiret) in France and studied art with M.A. Muraton. Known for her genre paintings,animal paintings, and still lifes, she debuted her work at the Paris Salon in 1868.She married the history painter Alphonse Muraton, and her son Louis Muraton wasalso a painter. She became a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1888,and received a bronze medal at the 1889 World’s Fair. Her works arerepresented in a number of French museums, notably those inRouen, Le Havre, Mulhouse, and Dieppe.
