High Middle Ages Tithe Stone, Languedoc, 16th–17th Centuries.

An important Early Medieval tithe stone made of limestone, carved on four sides with a design that is still very feudal in style, consisting of recesses and buttresses within a linear frame.
This type of stone, known as a “tithe stone” or “tithe stone,” has been used since the Early Middle Ages and served as a measuring instrument or standard for measuring and collecting the tax of the same name for the benefit of civil institutions (various lordships) or religious institutions.  Containers (canvas sacks, pots, or baskets) filled to the height of the levy to be paid were placed on it....
