Large Studio Plaster Cast Greek "discobolus" Antique Decorative Sculpture, 155 Cm, 19th-century Olympic Games

Large male statue in the classical style (155 × 100 × 40 cm), sculpted in the round on a rectangular base. A spectacular addition to a neoclassical decor or a contemporary interior.

A beautiful cast based on ancient models, capturing the full range of Greco-Roman sculpture:  The spiral twist of the bust, the curling of the shoulders, and the outstretched supporting leg all recall the style of Myron, as seen in Roman marble sculptures.

This piece was used to study proportions and movement in art schools.

Complete models with the right arm intact are well documented in cast collections (Parisian studios—École des Beaux-Arts, RMN–Grand Palais—and the Musée des Moulages in Montpellier), which sheds light on the academic use and dissemination of this canon.

White-patinated plaster, surface showing signs of workshop wear: chips, old repairs; the plaster was likely cut into two parts and subsequently reworked with plaster; isolated micro-cracks with no apparent structural weakness.

The lower right forearm and the fingers of the left hand are missing; these signs of wear are consistent with long-term use in an educational setting. The anatomical details are very clearly defined (pectoral muscles, obliques, quadriceps, shoulder blades).

Given its scale and dynamism, the model complements both classical woodwork and minimalist or neoclassical set designs.

Plausible workshop attribution: a Parisian casting workshop (École des Beaux-Arts, RMN network) or the Musée des Moulages in Montpellier, both active in disseminating major models based on ancient originals in the late 19th century.

Delivery by a specialized carrier is required; the sculpture is stored on the ground floor of a house accessible to a 20m³ vehicle.
