Large bronze head of an Ooni of Ife. Yoruba, Nigeria. A superbe piece crafted using the ancestral lost-wax technique dating back to the 13th century. They produced naturalistic works of exceptional quality. It was following the dissolution of the Kingdom after the capture of Benin City in 1897 that approximately 2,400 objects were brought to Europe by British troops.
