Empire-style 'lion's Paw' Fireplace In Carrara Marble. Circa 1870
An imposing, striking Empire fireplace, named 'Pattes de Lion' or 'Lions Paws'. Very nicely carved in subdued Carrara marble. This Carrara has a Statuary quality, which adds a distinct shine and raffinée. (No cold bleu or cold grey veins in this marble.) Fireplace was found in an important Maison Maître in Brussels. Comparing the execution of this Lions Paws to others: The sculpture works on this fireplace are above average. The 'interior-photo' is a perfect impression of this fireplace.
