Meissen - Porcelain Figurine, Moor With A Parrot Depicting Nelusco
Meissen porcelain figurine depicting a Moor with a parrot. The bird, perched on his right hand, is accented with turquoise and yellow, as are his hat and costume. The base is molded with scroll motifs highlighted in turquoise. This model, designed by Paul Scheurich in 1923 and put into production by the manufactory in 1926, was inspired by Giacomo Meyerbeer’s opera *L’Africaine* (or *Vasco de Gama*), specifically the character Nelusco. Marked with crossed blue swords; model number 67074 incised. Listed in the Meissen-Bergmann catalog.
