The myth of Diana and Endymion tells the story of the love between the goddess of the hunt and the moon and a strikingly handsome mortal shepherd. To keep him handsome and eternally young, she persuades Zeus to plunge him into an eternal sleep deep within a cave, where she comes to gaze upon him every night.
