Impressive cylindrical hallway lantern in chiseled and gilded bronze, retaining its original manufacturer’s plaque: “Lacarrière Frères, Delatour & Cie, Paris.”
It opens via a glass door and contains a central four-light fixture. The piece rests on pinecone-shaped feet and features an elegant neoclassical design consisting of an openwork frieze, arched arms adorned with acanthus leaves, and plumes.
This lantern was crafted by Lacarrière Frères, Delatour & Cie, one of the most prestigious Parisian firms specializing in art bronzes and lighting fixtures in the 19th century. Founded in 1825, Lacarrière quickly established itself as one of France’s leading manufacturers of luxury lighting fixtures. Having won numerous awards at the Industrial Product Exhibitions and later at the World’s Fairs, it gained an international reputation thanks to the exceptional quality of its castings, chiseling, and gilding.
Its name remains inextricably linked to the Opéra Garnier, for which it produced a large portion of the monumental light fixtures. In particular, the company crafted the famous chandelier for the auditorium, designed by Charles Garnier, as well as the imposing candelabras and large bronze torchbearer figures that adorn the building’s exterior facades (see photos). At the end of the 19th century, the firm also contributed to the creation of the prestigious candelabras on the Alexandre III Bridge, one of the great symbols of the 1900 World’s Fair (see photo). 
The presence of the plaque “Lacarrière Frères, Delatour & Cie, Paris,” still preserved on this lantern, attests to its authenticity and links this piece to one of the greatest Parisian bronze workshops of its time.
In excellent condition. Beautiful original gilding with a particularly harmonious antique patina. The glass panes are original, and the suspension chain is intact.
