Large Louis XV Period Lantern
A large Louis XV period lantern in finely chased and gilded bronze, pentagonal in shape with wide, curved glass panes.
It features a rocaille decoration composed of shells, scrolls, foliage, and asymmetrical motifs. The uprights, decorated with stylized shells and ears of wheat, frame the domed glass panels and terminate at the bottom with finely chased foliate scrolls.
The upper section is adorned with a rich scrollwork design and a large, finely crafted shell at the center of each pane. A finely chased and openwork shell is also featured in the lower central section.
This lantern is suspended by five arms in the form of a console and an inverted console, with three-part scrolls.
The central stem divides into five light arms, each highlighted by an inverted pine cone. The candle holders and bobeches are very simple.
French work from the Louis XV period, in its original gilding.
