Moroccan dagger known as a “koumya” – Morocco, 19th–early 20th century
A koumya with a handle of a completely unique shape that does not resemble any of the well-known characteristic forms.
The hilt features a horn tang and elements made of a copper alloy overlaid with silver, which is chased on the display side.
Engraved on the back of the pommel is a verse from the Quran (Surah As-Saff, 61:13):
نَصْرٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَفَتْحٌ قَرِيبٌ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
which can be translated as follows:
Help from Allah and a victory near at hand. And give good news to the believers.
Sheath made of copper alloy overlaid with silver, engraved on the front.
Double-edged blade engraved with floral motifs.
