Bourguet: Solid Silver Bowl With Handles, 18th Century, Louis XV Period, Paris 1753
Extremely rare solid silver bowl from the Louis XV period with a plain body and handles shaped like seashells. The piece is very well hallmarked (body and handles) with the maker’s mark (ox head) and the assayer’s mark (boar head) for PARIS 1750–56, Guild hallmarks for PARIS 1753 (crowned “N”) and the hallmarks of Master Silversmith Simon BOURGET (fleur-de-lis, two grains, his initials “SB,” and a tower), received in 1740. Extremely rare period cup in very good condition and well hallmarked, with a beautiful patina and minor scratches from use.
