Rare Mechanical Tabletop Orrery With A Spring-driven Mechanism
A rare, large tabletop orrery with a wind-up mechanism. Protected by a beautiful dome with cut glass, it features a Sun-Earth-Moon arm that rotates in astronomical order, indicating the months and the signs of the zodiac. The Earth globe and the Moon are made of bone, while the Sun is made of gilded wood. Inside is a large spring-driven mechanism wound from the outside using a crank. The mechanism works but probably needs cleaning and re-lubrication. Complete and in excellent condition, it comes from a German school, likely from the late 19th or early 20th century.
