Important Pair Of Glazed Porcelain Statues Depicting Chinese Porters – 19th Cent.
A rare and spectacular pair of glazed porcelain statues depicting two young Chinese porters dressed in long emerald-green robes, standing on rocky bases decorated with stylized waves and clouds. Each figure carries a circular tray on his head, originally intended to hold a vase, a flowerpot, or a decorative object.
These sculptures captivate with the quality of their modeling, the expressiveness of their faces, and the richness of their deep-colored glaze, typical of the great Far Eastern porcelain of the late 19th century.
The statues feature a beautiful patina of age and retain excellent decorative appeal. There are a few chips, signs of wear, and old restorations, visible in the photographs, which are consistent with their age and use.
A large, decorative pair, ideal for an interior, a winter garden, a sunroom, or an Asian art collection.
