Extremely rare, heavy, round Lille-style plate in solid 18th-century silver, featuring a filleted border design. The rim is engraved with the magnificent coat of arms of the POTTEAU and GOUDEMAN DE LAYENS families, stamped with a helmet. Marriage in 1767 of François Joseph POTTEAU (squire) to Isabelle Florence GOUDEMAN DE LAYENS. LILLE recognition hallmarks, LILLE guild hallmark 1768–69 (Crowned Z) and Hallmark of Master Goldsmith Pierre-Jacques PONTUS (Hallmark featuring the initials "PP" on a fleur-de-lis, all crowned) granted in 1746. Extremely rare, heavy Lille-made flat dish with coat of arms, in very good condition and remarkably hallmarked; minor surface scratches from normal use.
