15th-century Wrought-iron Candleholder

A rare and important wrought-iron candlestick from the Gothic period, made in France in the 15th century.

It rests on a remarkable tripod base whose three legs, forged into broad arches, converge toward the shaft to form an elegant spike, reinforced by curved struts adorned with simple volutes and small diamond-pointed cubes. This design, both sturdy and slender, gives the piece a silhouette characteristic of great Gothic ironwork.
The shaft, with a polygonal cross-section, is punctuated by two hot-set forged rings and ends in a wide wax cup designed to collect wax, pierced in its center by a long spike that holds the candle

Originally intended for lighting churches, chapels, or monastic buildings, this type of liturgical furniture was also used in certain stately homes during ceremonies or special occasions.

Beautiful antique patina. Excellent condition, with no significant restoration.
