Large Plaster Statue Of The Virgin And Child, 19th Century

Artist: Pierre Biardeau
An important plaster cast from the late 19th century, a full-scale reproduction of the Virgin known as the “Virgin of Nozé” by the Angers artist Pierre Biardeau (1608–1671).

The original work was created in terracotta around 1660 and is currently on display at the Saint-Martin Collegiate Church in Angers (photo 8).

It has been listed as a Historic Monument since February 15, 2000.

Until the mid-1950s, our model was on display at the Lycée David in Angers.

A plaque from the Chapeau workshop is affixed to the base; in the 19th century, the Chapeau workshop was a studio in Angers specializing in the reproduction of religious sculptures.
