Large Kadjar Tray, Persia, 19th Century
Very large Kadjar tray, 19th-century ancient Persian.
It is made of very thick copper that was originally silver-plated (worn on the front) and tin-plated. The tin plating on the back is intact. There is a trace of a former wall-mounting ring on the back. A decorative showpiece with finely chiseled designs covering its entire surface.
The tray has a multi-lobed edge.
Delicate chiseled decoration featuring royal figures (crown), servants bearing offerings, and women. Shepherds appear to be offering sheep. In the center, the crowned figure receives a winged horse. The depiction of figures in profile, with superb details of drapery, spears, and floral friezes, is typical of Qajar art. A series of ceremonial scenes specific to Persian history.
