19th-century Mahogany Writing Desk
19th-century Empire-style mahogany writing desk
An elegant Empire-period drop-leaf secretary desk in flamed mahogany veneer, resting on four square legs and framed by two freestanding columns adorned with bronze rings. It is topped with its original black marble top.
The flap, upholstered in its original leather, reveals a compartment consisting of four small drawers, a central niche, and a writing surface. The lower section opens via two doors concealing ample storage space with a large interior drawer.
The piece retains its original locks, bronze keyholes, and clover-shaped keys, which is a real asset. This secretary desk features fine cabinetmaking, with mahogany veneer boasting warm grain and an antique patina.
