"Le mariniste" by Amédée Lynen (1852–1938) pays homage to the maritime world, one of Amédée Lynen’s favorite themes. Born in Brussels, the artist studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts before becoming a leading figure in late 19th-century Belgian painting. A painter, watercolorist, and printmaker, he is known for his coastal scenes, harbor views, and depictions of fishermen’s lives. In this work, a painter seated facing the sea captures the landscape on his canvas, while several onlookers observe his work.
