Pillbox - Hermès - Silver - France - 20th Century
Hermès Paris pillbox in solid silver, Louis XV design – Ravinet d’Enfert
Elegant circular pillbox by Hermès Paris, crafted in solid silver with a vermeil interior.
The lid is adorned with a relief of a Louis XV coin, depicting the sovereign’s profile accompanied by the inscription LUD. XV REX CHRISTIANISS., inspired by 18th-century French royal coins.
The interior, entirely plated in vermeil, features a finely engraved design depicting a female allegory inspired by classical numismatic iconography. Standing, she holds a scepter and a cornucopia, symbols of prosperity and wealth. This refined decoration, rarely seen on a pillbox, attests to the care taken in its creation and lends the object a precious and erudite character.
The piece bears the French boar’s head hallmark, guaranteeing sterling silver, as well as the silversmith’s mark R ♣ D, corresponding to the prestigious Ravinet d’Enfert firm, a supplier to major French houses, including Hermès.
A discreet and refined luxury item, this pillbox combines the prestige of the House of Hermès, the excellence of French silversmithing, and a design inspired by royal numismatics, appealing to both Hermès collectors and connoisseurs of objets d’art.
