CENZI’s recommendation for you is: A statue depicting a young nude girl—a truly unique and rare neoclassical piece! He was an important Swiss sculptor and teacher, born in Russia to immigrant parents from Ticino. He was born on February 4 in St. Petersburg, the son of architect Davide Berra and Maria Cerfoglio. 1868–1874: He studied in Milan at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Giovanni Strazza. During this period, he received his first official recognitions. 1875: He began a career that took him back and forth between St. Petersburg and Nice, before settling in Certenago (Canton Ticino), where he opened his own art studio. Teaching: On behalf of the cantonal government, he founded and directed the Scuola Regolare di Disegno e Scultura in Lugano, later teaching in Fribourg as well. 1898: He died prematurely in Fribourg on February 17, at the age of 48.
