12 Vintage Linen-thread Napkins, Hand-embroidered Monogram, Needle-lace Design, 85x68

An elegant set of twelve large antique linen napkins, dating from the Belle Époque (circa 1895–1915), notable for the exceptional quality of the fabric and the refinement of its craftsmanship.

Made from exceptionally fine linen thread, these napkins feature a fabric that is particularly white, supple, and luminous—characteristic of the linens used in the grand estates of that era.

Produced by a high-quality manufacturer, they were subsequently embellished by hand. The openwork embroidery and the monogram were executed by an experienced embroiderer, in accordance with the traditional craftsmanship of the specialized workshops of the Belle Époque.

Each napkin is adorned with a monogram embroidered in relief, executed with remarkable finesse. The elegant scrollwork attests to the great delicacy of the craftsmanship. The reverse side of the embroidery, visible in one of the photographs, reveals particularly meticulous workmanship, characteristic of a piece created by an expert hand.

The perfectly even openwork stitching elegantly highlights the decorative bands and adds to the refinement of this set.

Condition

The set has been washed, ironed, and starched by me and is ready for use.

Please note:

• One napkin has two old, sturdy, and discreet mends;
• Three napkins have some slight foxing.

Apart from these minor imperfections, the set is in very good condition.

This set is a magnificent example of fine household linens from the Belle Époque. It features fabric of the highest quality, enhanced by remarkable handiwork: needle-lace and a hand-embroidered monogram. A prime piece for lovers of antique linens and collectors of fine textile works.
