Elegant pair of antique pillowcases in pure linen thread, each embroidered with a crowned monogram “JP”, surmounted by a marquis’s crown. The two monograms, although similar in composition, have a slightly different design – evidence of craftsmanship and perhaps a marital trousseau where each pillowcase was dedicated to Monsieur and Madame. Refined finish with small ladder hem all around and button closure on the back. Dimensions: 67 x 69 cm Period: 19th century Provenance: Château in Dordogne Condition: very nice set, clean and ironed. Note: one pillowcase is missing a button; the second, a little softer and slightly whiter, has undoubtedly been used more. A few small stains on the back, not serious for use or presentation. An authentic and rare pair, emblematic of château household linen, both a ceremonial piece and testimony to a 19th-century aristocratic trousseau.
