Art Deco Candy Box "la Toilette" By Marcel Goupy, From The Daum Lalique Marinot Era
Artist: Marcel Goupy (1886-1954)
A very beautiful Art Deco "La Toilette" box by master glass enameler Marcel Goupy.
Capturing all the charm of an era and crafted with superb quality, this box features delicate enamel work on the lid, depicting a woman getting ready by a lake. The colors are sublime, and Marcel Goupy’s inimitable style is clearly recognizable.
The design is entirely accented with gold. Note that the enamel is applied to both sides of the box. The artist intended this to add depth to the background (the blue trees)....A very original technique...
11 cm in diameter, in perfect condition, circa 1925.
If you search for “Goupy” on Proantic, you’ll find another box by the artist that’s quite similar and features the same shape and type of enamel.
A superb Art Deco box, a one-of-a-kind piece crafted by the artist himself.
