"orchids And Ginkgos" Spinning Top Vase By Paul Nicolas, Signed In Silver-plated Enamel, Daum Galle Era, 1920
Artist: Paul Nicolas, Verrerie De Saint-louis
A lovely spinning-top-shaped vase decorated with orchids and ginkgo leaves by Paul Nicolas.
As always, this incredibly talented glass artist delivers the same high quality of engraving. This lovely vase has a spinning top shape on a small base; it is decorated with orchids intertwined with ginkgo leaves, all etched with acid. Note especially the beautiful colors—that vibrant green and the rich honey-colored background. The piece is signed “d’Argental à la croix de Lorraine,” which means that the glassworks of Saint-Louis produced the vase but it was decorated in Paul Nicolas’s workshops in Nancy. It is generally accepted that this is the highest quality for pieces signed “d’Argental.”
In perfect condition, 23 cm in diameter, signed, circa 1925.
A very beautiful Art Nouveau piece, featuring delicate engraving and original colors.
