Pair Of Pot-pourri Vases In Patinated Bronze, Gilt Bronze, And White Marble Louis XVI Period

An elegant pair of pot-pourri vases, each featuring fine, delicate ram's heads, crafted with great refinement, reflecting an ornamental style directly inspired by antiquity and highly prized in the 18th century.

Each piece consists of a hemispherical patinated bronze urn topped by a lid in the matching finish. The lid, surmounted by a gilt-bronze finial shaped like a slender flame, is richly decorated with twisted garlands that echo the rams' horns; these elements are accented by a beaded frieze.

The urn is flanked by three bold gilt-bronze ram's heads, rendered with remarkable naturalism. Movable rings hang from their mouths, while their curled horns blend harmoniously into the overall composition.

The ensemble rests on an elegant gilt-bronze tripod stand. The supports, executed with great finesse, resemble naturalistic branches or stalks of grain, linked by a circular stretcher featuring a stylized grain-ear frieze.

They terminate in broad, scrolling foliate motifs that rest upon a triangular white marble base with concave sides. This base is edged with a delicate gilt-bronze twisted-ribbon molding and stands on three small toupie feet.

A magnificent, large-scale Louis XVI period work, retaining its original gilding and patina.
