Pair Of Louis XV Armchairs Stamped By Louis Delanois
Artist: Louis Delanois
An elegant pair of Louis XV armchairs in finely carved and gilded wood, stamped by Delanois (1731–1792), one of the most renowned chair makers under Louis XV and a preferred supplier to an aristocratic clientele.
These armchairs, with their "à la Reine" backs, feature graceful, flowing lines. They rest on four cabriole legs carved with cascading flowers. The finely crafted seat rail unfolds in curves and displays a delicate central motif representing a combination of two flowers and foliage.
The whiplash-shaped armrests are topped with upholstered armrests, adding a touch of elegance to the whole.
The straight back terminates at its apex in a carving of tied flowers and foliage, similar to the seat rail.
It is upholstered in brown silk velvet with a damask pattern.
