Rare Gilded Lead Fountain From The Louis XIV Period

Rare and elegant wall fountain. 

In gilded lead it is made up in the lower part of a winding console supporting a shell forming a basin. The console is decorated with several finely carved florets and acanthus leaves. 

The upper part depicts a love (putto with wings) surrounded by cloud. This representation in low and high relief is finely sculpted and presents this zephyr with an air of astonishment staring with its large open eyes at something to its right.

Due to its small size and elegance, it would harmonize perfectly with an interior. 
 
Gilded lead fountains from the Louis XIV period are rare. They are important testimonies of the art and architecture of the time. They are presented as souvenirs of the opulence of the Royal court and the mastery of techniques in the 17th and 18th centuries. 

Due to the high manufacturing costs, these prestigious pieces mainly adorned large venues. The Palace of Versailles, the center of power at the time, was supported by the display of various gilded lead fountains in the gardens. Damage due to exposure to bad weather and the recasting of lead in the following centuries made them even rarer and more prized objects.
