19th-century Camphor Wood Sea Chest

Camphor wood sea chest dating from the 19th century. The brass corner mounts also served as reinforcement for added robustness.

Inside, a refined detail has been added : in the upper section, three small doors with carved floral motifs on the left and right, and a central mirror. In the main compartment, drawers are present on the left side, as well as hidden compartments.

The chest or travel trunk is made of camphor wood, widely used in the 19th century for transporting furs. The scent of camphor wood served as a natural insect repellent.
