Odiot, Paris, 1856–1894, Sterling Silver And Vermeil, Set Of Three Louis XV Trencher Salts
Set of three Louis XV-style salt cellars, in chased and repoussé silver, with vermeil interiors, by Odiot, Paris, second half of the 19th century. The scalloped body, punctuated by fluting and rocaille motifs, rests on leaf-motif scrolls forming the feet. These pieces reproduce with exceptional fidelity the 18th-century rocaille models, for which Odiot had preserved the designs, molds, and production techniques. Their lavish and deeply chiseled decoration transforms these everyday objects into true table sculptures. They were crafted from cast silver and weigh 444 grams.
