France, Early 18th Century, Sculpture Of The Infant Jesus Holding A Globe, H 24 Cm
This sculpture of the Infant Jesus holding the globe is a work from the Baroque period.
Originally, the Infant Jesus was part of a sculpture of the Virgin and Child, seated on his mother’s lap.
Displayed on its own, it possesses all the childlike charms that bring us even closer to reality.
Seated on a rear pedestal, his face slightly lowered, simple in his nakedness, he appears to be playing with the globe he holds in his left hand and strikes us as very endearing.
The right hand is missing; the right leg has been reattached; there are a few areas where material is missing.
Dimensions: H 24 cm / With the base 26.5 cm
L 9 cm / With the base 14 cm W 12 cm
