Bronze Statue "the Whistling Ship's Boy" By Szczeblewski, Height 43 Cm, Sailor, Stamped By The Foundry Virlet
It bears the hallmark of the foundryman Léon Virlet, guaranteeing the bronze’s exceptional quality and the age of the cast. (Numbered 116.)
The work was created in 1889 for the Paris World’s Fair.
The subject—a young waiter or young sailor (a “ship’s boy”), barefoot, with his hands casually tucked into his pockets, wearing a beret, and immortalized in the act of whistling—is rendered with great finesse.
It stands 42 cm tall—a beautiful, uncommon size.
Base diameter: 13 cm
Very beautiful brown patina, in perfect condition.
This lovely bronze is also on display in my store in Morbihan, in southern Brittany, where you can pick it up if you wish.
