Finely Chased And Gilt-bronze Wall Clock.
Finely chased and gilt-bronze wall clock (*cartel d'applique*). The composition features a beautifully balanced decorative scheme that winds around the bronze-rimmed, convex-glass bezel enclosing the enamel hour dial. The design draws inspiration from the Rococo (*rocaille*) style, with scrolling palm fronds, leaves, branches, and flowers framing a figure of Cupid at the top, accompanied by symbolic attributes such as a book and a globe; the ornamentation reflects the style of the 18th-century designer Pierre-Louis Dumesnil. The bronze dates to the 18th century and features meticulous chasing and finishing, with some minor wear to the gilding. The movement—a high-quality mechanism with silk-thread suspension and a count-wheel striking system for the hours and half-hours—was replaced in the mid-20th century and is in perfect working order. Width: 35 cm; Height: 63 cm.
