Antique Polychrome Wooden Reliquary Bust Dating From The Late 17th Century. Spain
An antique polychrome wooden reliquary bust dating from the late 17th century, of Spanish origin.
The face has gentle yet solemn features, with the gaze turned slightly upward in an expression of ecstasy.
The hair consists of long, wavy brown locks falling over the shoulders.
The saint wears a draped tunic of a deep red color, marked by deep vertical folds that lend dynamism and three-dimensionality to the sculpture.
The base is shaped like an urn, carved from wood and lacquered, and features a small window in the center designed to house a relic.
The lower corners of the base are adorned with two cherub heads that visually serve as feet.
