Beautiful Translucent Lantern, Mahogany Cabinetwork, 19th Century
Design is very simple: 2 squares and 4 uprights—a well-known motif in folk art.
It is often found in rural areas, made by its owner using salvaged wood.
Curiously, here is amodel made from mahogany, with a finely guilloché brass smoke-exhaust fitting, a silver-plated bobèche and binet, and a turned handle of blackened wood or ebony—
a beautiful, elegant, and delicate piece. Beautiful patina,
late 19th or early 20th century. 25 cm x 13 cmx 13 cm.
Good overall condition, no flaws, normal wear and tear. Two glass panes have been replaced.
