Burma, Early 20th Century, Wooden Buddha Statue Lacquered With Gold Leaf.
Burma, early 20th century, a very pretty small Buddha statue made of wood lacquered with gold leaf on a black base, depicted seated on a triangular pedestal in the “touching the earth” mudra (Bhûmisparsha-Mudrà). This posture conveys a meditative state.
A very beautiful piece reminiscent of dry-lacquer sculptures. There is a workshop mark in slight relief beneath the base, featuring a floral motif.
Dimensions: Height 12 (cm).
The scale reference in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a well-known brand.
In good condition, aside from slight normal wear and a small chip on the garment at the left shoulder; this does not detract from its beautiful appearance.
