Description
A beautiful statuette depicting Guanyin, the Buddhist goddess of Compassion, carved from natural jade in delicate shades of celadon, honey, and lavender. Standing, she holds a sacred vase from which rises a ruyi branch, a symbol of peace, longevity, and prosperity.
The sculpture features particularly meticulous work on the drapery, hairstyle, and ornaments, highlighting the stone’s natural variations. The quality of the carving and the balance of the composition attest to the craftsmanship of early 20th-century Beijing workshops.
This work is representative of Chinese art production intended for connoisseurs and collectors during the Republic of China period.
