Pine Stool By René Martin, France, Circa 1965
Artist: René Martin
A solid pine stool designed by René Martin, a cabinetmaker nicknamed “René les Ciseaux,” a discreet yet essential figure in postwar Alpine design. As a collaborator with Charlotte Perriand, he participated in several interior design projects for the resorts of Méribel and Les Arcs in the French Alps.Resting on a four-legged base with turned legs, this stool features a thick, circular seat that is slightly hollowed out, revealing the natural grain of the pine.
Combining simplicity, sturdiness, and rustic elegance, it perfectly embodies the spirit of modernist mountain furniture, designed to last and blend seamlessly with the architecture.
Provenance: Méribel, circa 1965.
