A magnificent 17th-century Italian Venetian portrait of Caterina de Giunta, wife of Senator Giunta, oil on canvas by Justus Sustermans. Excellent quality and condition. Circa 1630, a bust-length portrait of Caterina Giunta, dressed in a black bodice and gown adorned with pearls, a ruff, and finely crafted lace cuffs, and wearing a glove on her left hand—a sign of her aristocratic rank. Inscription in the lower right corner identifying the subject. Unsigned, as are all works by Sustermans, but authenticated by Christie’s (stenciled numbers on the reverse). Presented in its original ebony frame.
