A charming work mounted under glass from the 18th-century French school depicting a pastoral genre scene. The composition features a village couple by a river: a man, seated on a basket, raises his index finger as if to tell a story or sing a song, while a young woman pours him a drink. On the right, a fishermanis kneeling, intently preparing his fishing line. In the background are a river, a wooded landscape, and the remains of ancient architecture, which lend the entire scene a peacefuland romantic atmosphere.

This work perfectly illustrates the 18th-century taste for rural scenes inspired by galant festivities and the idealized life of the countryside. The painting is distinguished by the delicacy of the figures, the finesse of the drawing, and a subtle palette of soft tones, characteristic of French works from this period.
