Painting / 18th-century French School, Mounted Under Glass "galant Scene No. 1"
Mounted under glass – “Galant Scene No. 1”
A charming work mounted under glass from the 18th-century French school depicting an elegant romantic scene in a rural landscape. The composition features a musician playing the lute or mandolin, accompanied by a young man and a young woman seated on a barrel, raising her glass in a convivial atmosphere. In the background are architectural ruins and lush vegetation, reinforcing the bucolic character of the scene.
The work captivates with the finesse of its execution, the softness of its palette with warm tones, and the quality of the figure rendering—all typical of the Rococo style of the second half of the 18th century. This type of setting, inspired by galant gatherings, was particularly popular in the refined interiors of the era.
Presented in its original blackened wood frame with gilded molding. The reverse, consisting of an original panel, confirms its period presentation.
This work is part of a pair, with the other painting depicting a complementary pastoral scene. The two paintings can be reunited, but they are being offered for sale separately.
