Hunting Powder Horn With Engraved Flower And Ten-point Stag, 1709
Artist: Art Populaire
A fine pocket powder horn dating from early18th century.
It is made from a bovine horn that was heat-shaped in a mold tocreate its flattened form.
The entire exterior surface is finely engraved of a large ten-point stag displaying an impressive set of antlers, a curious oversized flower, and the inscription “Ao 1709.”
The base plug is made of hardwood, threaded, and decorated with floral engravings.
The turned horn spout is secured with pins, and the stag-antler stopper fits snugly, providing an effective seal.
Dimensions: Length: 17 cm (6.7 in), Width: 7.5cm (3 in), Thickness: 2.5 cm (1 in).
Good overall condition with anattractive aged patina.
This authentic period piece dates from Louis XIV era and is probably of Northern European origin.
There is a small worm hole and minor cracking along the lower edge (see dedicated photograph).
Displays very well overall.
Immediate purchase: payment accepted via credit card or PayPal.
