A beautiful religious sculpture depicting the Virgin standing, carved from soft limestone. She is dressed in a long, belted gown and a loose-fitting cloak with deep folds, reflecting the high quality of the sculptor’s work. Her wavy hair falls on either side of her face.
The statue retains interesting traces of its original polychromy, notably ochre and gray highlights visible in the folds of the garment, lending the piece great charm and authenticity.
This work may have originated from a workshop in the Loire Valley or central France, a region renowned for its production of religious limestone sculptures in the 17th and 18th centuries.
