Large Satsuma Porcelain Vase, Japan, Late 19th Century.
This beautiful Japanese vase consists of three parts: the body, the neck, and the base.
On the oblong body, two lively park scenes are depicted, featuring three young women and a man, all very well dressed. Exotic birds flit among them; others are perched at their feet, including a magnificent peacock with a green tail and a proud rooster. In the background, a small temple stands out on a hill, beyond a stream. Two “endomorphic” gilded handles and a ring complete the decoration.
The neck, which is very flared and dynamic, features an exclusively floral design on a speckled black background. The dividing element is a “coral” cord.
The base, also flared, features the same design. The dividing element is a frieze of stylized “coral,” green, and blue motifs.
Our vase can be placed on a five-legged pedestal, included, made of varnished mahogany.
