Art Nouveau "domrémy La Pucelle" Vase By Daum Nancy, 1892
Exceptional vase with a rounded, flattened body on an Art Nouveau-era pedestal, made of acid-etched glass by Daum in Nancy, circa 1892.
Acid-etched glass, finely enamelled and gilded with fine gold. Acid-etched frosted background featuring stylized motifs and the Cross of Lorraine. Volutes framing the enameled and gilded cartouches. This vase is titled “Domrémy la Pucelle.” The neck and base are accented with gold.
The center features a grisaille depiction of Joan of Arc’s home, her coat of arms gilded in gold, an enameled and gilded crowned eagle on the reverse, and enameled and gilded Crosses of Lorraine and Fleurs-de-lis.
It is signed in black enamel “Daum Nancy” with the Cross of Lorraine beneath the vase. Height: 17 cm. Width: 13.5 cm. In perfect condition. No cracks, no chips.
A similar vase is housed at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, referenced on page 25 of the book “Daum, dans les Musées de Nancy” (see last photo).
A candy dish 12.5 cm in diameter with a similar design was sold in 2007 for USD 5,865 (see last photo).
