Porcelain and Gilt-Bronze Bonbonnière and Perfume Burner, Napoleon III Style, Late 19th Century

An elegant white porcelain bonbonnière, also designed for use as a perfume or potpourri burner, resting within a finely chased gilt-bronze mount.

The body and domed lid are hand-painted with delicate polychrome floral bouquets, enhanced by refined gilt scrollwork and foliate motifs. The lid is surmounted by a pinecone-shaped finial set upon a pierced rosette, allowing fragrance to diffuse.

The richly ornamented gilt-bronze mount features a wide pierced gallery decorated with flowers and foliage. It is completed by two scrolling side handles and supported by four finely sculpted foliate feet.

The underside bears an apocryphal mark in the style of the Sèvres manufactory, characteristic of French decorative porcelain produced during the late 19th century.

A refined and highly decorative piece, representative of the historicist taste of the Napoleon III period.
