A Sévres Porcelain Jewelry Box, Late 19th Century
Elegant triangular-shaped jewelry box in Sèvres porcelain, made in the late 19th century, in the Louis XVI taste.
The lid features, in the center, a finely hand-painted reserve depicting a gallant scene inspired by Jean-Honoré Fragonard's compositions. A young couple is depicted in a garden, next to a stone fountain; the young woman, blindfolded, engages in a game of seduction imbued with grace and lightness, in the refined spirit of the 18th century.
The reserve is framed by a wide band in celestial blue, an emblematic color of the productions of the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, enhanced by rich gilded ornamentation with motifs of garlands of flowers, fruit and stylized foliage. The quality of the painted decoration, the precision of the gilding and the harmony of the colors testify to particularly meticulous workmanship.
The casket is highlighted by a fine chased gilt bronze mount, elegantly hugging its contour and reinforcing the object's precious character.
By its delicate decoration and refined execution, this casket perfectly illustrates the revival of taste for the 18th century under the Napoleon III period and during the late 19th century. It is a high-quality showcase object, both decorative and functional.
